An Icon of His Generation

At age 19 Kevin Ross is a gifted vocalist, songwriter, vocal arranger, and producer. He stands alone in his artistry giving R&B a new and refreshing sound. With his promotional demo entitled, To Whom May Be Concern, he gives honor to his predecessors while attempting to open doors for the future. Kevin fuses jazz implemented chords over a hip-hop influenced beat with elaborate 5 to 6 part harmonies, captivating story lines through his songwriting, and his silky yet sincere voice brings an undeniable sound.
At a young age Kevin’s family knew he was something special. He began capturing his peers’ attention by singing and dancing at the bus stop. He developed a natural ability for performing and truly enjoyed it. As Kevin got older he started to sing in church with the children’s choir under the leadership of Connie Lawson, who helped to develop his presence and poise. With the help of Ms. Lawson, Kevin auditioned for Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC and was accepted. His sophomore year, he joined an organization called the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Show Choir under the leadership of Samuel L.E. Bonds.
Joining the choir enhanced Kevin’s performing abilities and showed him how to work as one entity. In the choir he had the opportunity to perform in China, Antigua, at the White House and all over the United States. After three years in the choir, Kevin had already developed a sense of professionalism and sophistication. This would help mold his artistry in the years to come.
After completing four years at Ellington Kevin received awards such as “Most Outstanding Tenor” for Show Choir (2004), “Most Outstanding Male Vocalist”(Variety Show 2005), and “Most Outstanding Vocalist” for the graduating class of 2005. Soon after his departure from high school Kevin packed his bags for Boston, MA, where he would attend Berklee College of Music on a partial scholarship, majoring in songwriting

At Berklee Kevin has had the privilege to perform along side Herbie Hancock, Gloria Estafan, Paul Simon, Anthony Rapp (Original Cast Member from Rent), Meshell Indegecello (Love and Basketball Soundtrack- You made a fool of me) and many other faculty members and students. While performing around the Boston area he also had the privilege to go to Serbia with three alumni from Berklee under the leadership of Dennis Montgomery III (World Renowned Musician and Arranger) to record for a Serbian pop star, Vlado Georgiev. Kevin was able to maintain a 3.4 average all while being active in and outside his college community.
“With the help of God, my family, and people that became a part of my life none of this would have been possible,” Kevin states. He views life as the “ultimate improvisation”, making it up as you go along. And in order for you to be successful in life determination and passion is the key to anything that you do. This is his life, and now he wants you to be apart of it. Kevin Ross, a man and so much more than just a musician. He’s an icon of his generation.
